Research Interests

My main interest is to understand how individuals shape their phenotype by integrating environmental clues in their genetic possibilities. I am particularly fascinated by the phenotypic plasticity in insects showing this high level of individual adaptation. Aphids are very good models for this since they develop by parthenogenesis, and produce genetic clones; we thus do have a fixed genetic background that, in different environmental conditions, produce diverse phenotypes. More recently, I develop initiatives to integrate large sets of genomics data in order to accumulated knowledge of genome functioning in aphids during phenotypic plasticity. This is an ENCODE-like approach (called neoENCODE) I develop in collaboration with bioinformaticians (Fabrice Legeai in my group) and computer scientists and modelers at IRISA (http://www.irisa.fr/english/). All these researches could not exist without the efforts developed by the International Aphid Genomics Consortium (IAGC).
