Research in Ecology and Genetics of Insects (EGI) team

The mission of the EGI team is to understand the functioning of insect populations and communities that are associated with agro-ecosystems, and their adaptive responses to environmental constraints in order to best implement sustainable control strategies

In potato, we study the main virus diseases (in particular Potato Virus Y) transmitted by aphids. We are interested in:

  • the biological, serological and molecular diversity within  PVY populations (strains and isolates);
  • PVY genomic determinants responsible for pathogenicity , in particular the ability of PVYN and PVYNTN to induce necrosis ;
  • developing molecular and serological tools for the detection and diagnosis of PVY isolates;
  • PVY epidemiology, by searching for biotic and abiotic factors that are responsible for initiation and development of PVY-related diseases in the field;
  • developing serological detection kits for potato viruses (PVY, PVX, PLRV).
