Animal products and animal production systems play a very important role in society. However, questions raised by citizens, consumers, farmers, the industry, and legislators are sometimes difficult to conciliate. This concerns questions related to animal welfare, the efficiency of using (natural) resources to produce animal products, product quality and security, and the competitiveness, working conditions and environmental impact of the animal production sector.

The mission of the Pegase research unit is to conduct research and to propose educational programs dealing with these major questions in animal production. Our focus is to understand and to predict how the animal and animal production systems can adapt to a changing context.
